Anushka took to her Instagram story and shared a throwback picture of the veteran actress. Along with the picture, she wrote, “We have lost a gem! RIP Surekha ma’am” followed by a broken heart and folded hands emojis. Take a look:
Meanwhile, in a statement shared with the media, the agent said the actor had been suffering from complications arising from a second brain stroke. “Three-time national award winning actress, Surekha Sikri has passed away following a cardiac arrest earlier this morning at the age of 75. She had been suffering from complications arising from a second brain stroke. She was surrounded by family and her caregivers. The family asks for privacy at this time. Om Sai Ram,” the actor’s agent Vivek Sidhwani said.
She had suffered a brain stroke in September last year and was discharged after a few days.
Earlier today, her ‘Badhaai Ho’ co-star Gajraj Rao told ETimes, “Surekha ji is no more with us today, but the memories of her relentless dedication for her craft and child-like enthusiasm will always remain with me. I will always be thankful to have had the honour of working with a legend like her in ‘Badhaai Ho’.”
The three-time National Award-winning actor is best known for her performances in ‘Tamas’, ‘Mammo’, ‘Salim Langde Pe Mat Ro’, ‘Zubeidaa’, ‘Badhaai Ho’ and daily soap ‘Balika Vadhu’.
Sikri was last seen in the anthology ‘Ghost Stories’ (2020), in the story directed by Zoya Akhtar.
